An alternative to 3M 11 acetate cloth tape
3M 11 (often sold as Scotch 11) is an acetate cloth electrical tape for coil wrapping and harness bundling. Some distributors now list it as discontinued or special order. ETS supplies acetate cloth tape (AHS-41xx) from Toronto, with a flame-retardant option.

Check before you switch
Temperature class. 3M 11 is a 105°C (Class A) tape. Our AHS-41xx is rated 100°C continuous and 120°C short-term. If your design depends on a Class A rating, confirm it on the datasheet before switching.
Adhesive. 3M 11 uses a thermosetting adhesive. If your process relies on the adhesive curing with heat, check how ours behaves in your cycle.
Varnish and resin. Acetate cloth is chosen because it absorbs insulating varnish. Run a sample through your impregnation step.
Full product detail is in our Motor & transformer insulation guide.
Where it is used
- Coil and transformer layer wrap
- Wire harness bundling
- Lead and crossover insulation
- Flame-retardant wrap where required
Test it before you buy
Send us the 3M 11 size you use now, your process temperature and your substrate. We will send a free sample of AHS-41xx with its datasheet so you can run it on your own parts. In the GTA we can drop it off in person.
Frequently asked questions
Is 3M 11 discontinued?
Some distributors list 3M 11 as discontinued or special order. Check with your current supplier. If it is getting hard to source, our acetate cloth tape (AHS-41xx) is the closest construction we carry.
Is AHS-41xx the same as 3M 11?
Both are acetate cloth tapes, but they are not certified equivalents. Ratings and adhesive differ, so compare the datasheets, confirm the temperature class you need and test a sample.
Is a flame-retardant version available?
Yes. Acetate cloth tape is available in a flame-retardant option. Tell us the rating your product requires.
